A lot of lawyers say they're "not your ordinary lawyer." Lanae Austin epitomizes this phrase. Don't be surprised to find yourself doing a "double take" after seeing her pull up in front of the Anchorage courthouse in her truck with her many happy dogs, some which have been rescued from unhappy homes.

Professional Milestones

• 1989 - Graduated from Texas A & M University. Joined the army and served as Arabic linguist for the National Security Agency with a top secret clearance.

• 1993 - Received honorable discharge, passed LSAT and applied to University of Baltimore School of Law.

• Summer 1995 - Clerked for Baltimore County Circuit, Judge John Hennegan

• Summer 1996 - Bail Attorney for State of Alaska Public Defender's Office.

• August 1996 thru August 1997 - Clerked full-time for Judge Hennegan during the day and attended law school at night.

• May 1997 - Graduated cum laude from the Baltimore School of Law

• July 31 1997 - Packed the Nissan Sentra, with Austin, the German Shepherd, and Dallas, the Border Collie, and drove 5015 miles from Baltimore to Alaska.

• 1997-98 - Served as Alaska District Court Law Clerk

• 1998 thru 2001 - Practiced family law for the law firm of Lynda Limon, concentrating on family law - including domestic partnership, pre-nuptial agreement, domestic violence.

• September 2001 ~ opened solo law practice while continuing to concentrate on family law issues, including divorce, custody, child support, and visitation issues, domestic violence cases, adoptions, and small estate matters.

• 2002 ~ Graduated from American Bar Association Family Law Trial Advocacy Institute in Houston, Texas

• Graduated from 15th annual family law school;

• Additional Professional Commitments

Member of the fee arbitration committee of AK Bar Assn., American Bar Association, and Law Practice Management Committee.

• Current member of family law, general practice, solo practice committee.

• Each year I attend a minimum of 2-3 CLE seminars throughout the country to stay on top of current trends in family law. Also, regularly attend weekly ABA family law lunches and other CLE's around the state.
